What Does Butterfly Mean?

Different cultures have different meanings.

In Japan, butterfly are seen as the personification of a person's soul; whether they are living, dying, or already dead;

In Chinese culture, two butterflies flying together are a symbol of love;

The Russian word for "butterfly" means "bow tie";

The Ancient Greek word for "butterfly" also means "soul","mind";

In some old cultures, butterflies also symbolize rebirth in a new life after being inside a cocoon for a period of time.

In the Christian religion, butterfly represents rebirth and a new beginning.

This was my original train of thought to add butterflies in my cross art paper cuttings. This has influenced me to cut a lot of crosses with buttflies in my Christian art.
